Hailing from the Capitale-Nationale region, Wilkens Mathieu first ventured into combat sports through taekwondo. Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Lexson, he transitioned to boxing and stepped into the ring for his first amateur match at just 10 years old.
As he progressed through the amateur ranks, Wilkens rapidly excelled in the 48, 54, 66, and 75 kg categories. Along the way, he was crowned champion of the prestigious Golden Gloves five times and became the Canadian junior champion at 75 kg.
His talent also caught the eye of the Canadian national team, giving him the opportunity to compete internationally. Notable achievements include winning gold at the Bradenburger Cup in Germany, a silver medal at the Gergely Bornemissza Youth Tournament in Hungary, and participating in the IBA Youth Men World Championships in Spain.
With a stellar amateur record of 30-2, including 4 KOs, Wilkens Mathieu decided to turn professional under the Eye of the Tiger banner. At just over 18 years old, he made a successful debut in February 2023, handing Zsolt Birkas his first loss in the very first round. Wrapping up 2023 with a perfect record of 5-0, including 3 KOs, Mathieu was named EOTTM’s Rookie of the Year.
The year 2024 saw even greater success, with Wilkens continuing his unstoppable rise in the boxing world. He won seven out of seven bouts, making him the most active boxer in the country. Already undefeated in 12 professional fights, at the tender age of 19, the boxing world is eager to see what he will achieve in his 20s.
Armed with youth, talent, and the work ethic of the sport’s finest veterans, Wilkens Mathieu has captured the imagination of fans and experts alike. One thing is certain: the sky’s the limit for this rising star.
