Background & Amateur Career

Originally from Quebec’s Capitale-Nationale region, Wilkens Mathieu was introduced to combat sports through taekwondo. He soon followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Lexson, and turned to boxing, competing in his first bout at just 10 years old. As an amateur, Wilkens developed impressively across the 48 kg, 54 kg, 66 kg and 75 kg weight classes. Along the way, he became a five-time Golden Gloves champion and captured the Canadian junior title at 75 kg. The Quebec native also earned the opportunity to represent Canada on the junior national team, competing internationally at the Junior World Championships in Spain, the Brandenburg Cup in Germany—where he won gold—and the Junior International Tournament in Hungary, where he took home silver.

A Rising Star in Quebec

A Rising Star in Quebec

In 2025, trainer Giuseppe Moffa of Club de boxe Pound 4 Pound took over from his father to help bring Wilkens Mathieu to the next level of his career. In October, while still only 20 years old, he dropped and dominated Brossard fighter Shakeel Phinn to capture the NABF North American Super Middleweight Championship and WBC Continental Super Middleweight Championship (168 lb). Determined to continue his rapid rise, in June 2026, he headlined for the first time at the Théâtre Capitole de Québec, where he became the first fighter to stop Olympic medalist Esquiva Falcao in less than eight rounds. With as much talent as ambition, and a place in the world top 10 at only 21 years old, the potential of Wilkens Mathieu appears limitless. It is safe to say that he seems destined to make Quebec fans proud and excited for many years to come.
