Originally from Adana, Turkey, Mehmet Unal has always been a natural athlete. He began training in combat sports as a teenager and quickly rose through the ranks—first in kickboxing, then in Olympic-style boxing. Kickboxing helped lay the foundation for his boxing career, introducing him to national and international competition, including the global K-1 kickboxing circuit. He later joined the competitive boxing team at Fenerbahçe Boxing Club in Istanbul. A proud competitor with formidable punching power, Unal found success at the European Olympic qualifying tournament, earning a place on Turkey’s national team for the Rio Olympics.
In his first professional final, became unified WBC and WBA Continental light-heavyweight champion with a ninth-round victory over Altin Zogaj.
Became WBC Continental light-heavyweight champion with a first-round victory over Polish contender Jan Czerklewicz.
Competed at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, reaching the second round.
It was in 2021 that Mehmet Unal joined the Eye of the Tiger team and moved to Montreal to begin his professional career. The Turkish-born boxer quickly built a fearsome reputation in the light heavyweight division. With his punching power, volume, pressure, and unorthodox pace, very few fighters have been able to withstand Marc Ramsay’s protégé.
In 2025, Mehmet Unal delivered spectacular knockouts, notably against the normally durable Jan Czeklewicz and Ralf Vilcans, against whom he captured and defended the WBC Continental Light Heavyweight Championship. In February 2026, he earned the first main event victory of his career at the Casino de Montréal, stopping Altin Zogaj to hand him his first professional defeat and capture a second continental title, the WBA Continental Light Heavyweight Championship. Still undefeated with more than 15 bouts, Mehmet Unal will undoubtedly be on the radar for a major fight in 2027- 2028.
