Cuban boxer Osleys Iglesias is poised to make a significant impression, securing his first world title in just 8 professional bouts within the fiercely competitive super-middleweight division. EOTTM was drawn to the current IBO world champion for several reasons: his exceptional talent, his drive to compete among the best, and his immense potential.
With an impressive amateur record of 200 fights, including 184 victories, Iglesias initially competed in the middleweight division at the amateur level. He made a mark nationally by participating in the Torneo Nacional Playa Giron (national championship) four times, securing a silver medal on each occasion. Additionally, he clinched gold medals twice in the Cordova-Cardin Tournament.
The southpaw gained valuable international experience by participating in various tournaments, including the Thailand International Invitational Tournament and representing Cuba in the Cuba vs. Russia tournament. He notably secured a gold medal at the 2018 World Cup. His victories include wins over two-time Cuban Olympian Arlen Lopez and WBA world champion David Morell. Transitioning to the professional circuit in 2019, he relocated to Germany full-time after refining his skills against elite competition for several years.
Since his entry into the major leagues, where he made a significant impact in the 168 lb division, Iglesias has risen to the world’s top 15 according to Boxrec. Notable victories include triumphs over veterans like Isaac Chilemba, securing titles such as the WBO World Youth, IBO International, and WBA Inter-Continental. His pinnacle moment arrived in 2022 when he claimed the IBO World Champion title by defeating Andrii Velikovskyi with a 10th-round knockout.
This boxer in his mid-twenties has ample time ahead to disrupt the 168 lb. division further and accumulate multiple championship belts!
