Born in Belarus, Dzmitry Asanau followed in his father’s footsteps when he first stepped into the boxing ring. However, it didn’t take long for him to carve out his own legacy in the sport.
Asanau’s amateur career was nothing short of spectacular, boasting over 200 victories against elite competition, including notable wins over stars like Andy Cruz, Hector Luis Garcia, and Murodjon Akhmadaliev. His achievements on the global stage are remarkable: three gold medals at the European Championships, gold and silver at the European Games, a bronze at the World Championships, and two appearances at the Olympic Games—Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021.
In February 2022, Asanau, nicknamed The Wasp for his elusive footwork and seamless combinations, transitioned to the professional ranks. After accumulating seven wins over two years while based in Dubai and fighting out of Germany, he sought a new challenge and joined forces with Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM).
The partnership quickly paid off. Now training in Montreal under Samuel Décarie-Drolet, Asanau captured his first professional title in only his second fight with EOTTM. On November 7, 2024, he claimed the WBC Continental Americas Lightweight title by defeating hard-hitting Argentinian Matias Rueda (38-3, 32 KOs) with a fifth-round stoppage—a performance that earned him Fight of the Night honors.
Dzmitry Asanau is now poised to make waves in the professional lightweight division, blending his world-class amateur pedigree with the hunger to climb to the top.
