Mary Spencer will have the opportunity to avenge her only career defeat inflicted on her last December by the Belgian Femke Hermans, as the IBO world title slipped through her fingers. The stakes are high for the EOTTM protégée, who will now have the chance to claim the vacant IBF world championship belt at 154 lbs. The showdown, set to take place on October 11 at the Casino de Montreal, promises to be highly explosive. Both athletes are deeply determined, and each of them will give everything they have to come out victorious in this rematch.
“I’m very excited to have this opportunity to fight for the IBF world title, and I must say that facing Femke Hermans again brings me even more motivation. I am confident, and I know that with the work I’ve done at the gym so far and in the weeks to come, I will be the best-prepared version of myself at the end of my training camp,” says Mary Spencer.
Following this heartbreaking loss, Mary Spencer (7-1, 5 KOs) showed great resilience and made significant changes within her team and training methodology. The Olympian evaluated the areas she needed to improve and sought additional resources and expertise to continue her progress. Her team is working together to optimize her training and maximize her results, and the progress is remarkable, as noted by her new coach, Samuel Décarie-Drolet :
“Every day, I try to take Mary to hell, because that’s what Hermans made her go through in their last fight. The training is tough, and we constantly push her limits. The difference this time is that Mary will feel at home when Hermans tries to take her to hell, and not only will she face the music, but she will also lead the dance.”
Since her victory over Spencer, Femke Hermans (16-4, 7 KOs) has successfully defended her IBO title twice through stoppage victories against Katarina Vistica and Maria Lindberg. The former WBO world champion hopes to achieve the same result on October 11 at the Casino de Montreal and is fully prepared to defeat the Montreal native once again. The full card for this event will be announced later, but it can already be expected to feature the participation of Erik Bazinyan (30-0, 21 KOs), Wilkens Mathieu (3-0, 2 KOs), Leïla Beaudoin (9-1, 1 KO), Mehmet Unal (4-0, 4 KOs), and Jhon Orobio (3-0, 3 KOs).
