Background & Amateur Career

Erik Bazinyan and his family immigrated to Quebec in 2011, when he was 16 years old. A former member of Armenia’s junior national team, he was determined to continue training after arriving in Quebec—and, above all, to pursue the goal he had set from his first days in a boxing gym: becoming a world champion. By the end of a remarkable amateur career, Bazinyan had compiled an outstanding record of 108 wins in 109 bouts. What makes that accomplishment even more impressive is that he lost his very first fight, then never lost again. With a strong sense of accomplishment, he turned professional at 18 in 2013.

Professional Debut & Rise

The transition came naturally for the Armenian-born boxer, whose explosive, sharp style was made for the professional ranks. Bazinyan rose to every challenge in his path, stringing together quick victories and spectacular knockouts. Wins over Aro Schwartz and David Zegarra earned him the WBO Youth and NABO super middleweight titles, which he successfully defended in entertaining fights, notably against Francy Ntetu and Adrian Luna Flores.

A Path Toward the World Elite

A Path Toward the World Elite

With his first belts around his waist, “BZO” climbed rapidly—both in the ring and in the world rankings. The Marc Ramsay-trained fighter went on to capture the NABA and NABF titles at 168 lbs. Along the way, he dominated former world-title challengers Marcelo Coceres and Alantez Fox and stopped American fighter Ronald Ellis. In the summer of 2024, he went to war with former world champion and Mexican star Jaime Munguia. That performance proved he belongs among the elite while helping him build a name for himself on the biggest American platforms. After a showing like that, another major international opportunity should be just around the corner for the talented Laval-based fighter.
