Christopher Guerrero first walked into a boxing gym at age 12 to learn how to defend himself. But under the guidance of trainer Mike Moffa at Montreal’s Underdog Gym, he quickly showed unwavering motivation—and, above all, an exceptional desire to excel. Guerrero enjoyed considerable success throughout his amateur career, beginning with a Canadian championship title in 2017. He went on to win the Silver Gloves in 2019 and became a two-time Canadian champion that same year. His bouts in Canada, the United States and Tunisia led him to the 2020 national trials, where he reached the semifinals. Following that tournament, and in search of new challenges, the Montreal-born fighter of Mexican and Italian heritage decided it was time to turn professional.
Became WBC Continental welterweight champion by defeating Oliver Quintana by unanimous decision in a bout that was also voted the Public Performance of the Night.
Won in the fourth round against American fighter Courtney Pennington in a bout that earned him his first entry into the world rankings.
Won the Canadian National Championships for the second time as an amateur.
In January 2021, Guerrero earned his first professional victory in Mexico. After winning his first four bouts by unanimous decision, Giuseppe Moffa became his head trainer and guided him to five consecutive knockout victories. In 2024, after earning an eight-round unanimous decision in January, Guerrero returned in May and stopped American Kenny Larson in the opening round, earning Knockout of the Night honours. In September, he stopped an even more experienced American opponent, Courtney Pennington, in four rounds and was named Performance of the Night.
That impressive victory earned Guerrero a place in the IBF’s 147-pound world rankings, where he ended 2024 ranked No. 15. The 23-year-old world contender will be one to watch in 2025, as “Machine Gun” Guerrero sets his sights on breaking into the world top 10.
